The goal of the merit badge program is to extend a Scout's areas
of interest and to encourage the Scout (and a buddy) to meet and
work with adults in a chosen subject area. A Scout, working with a
registered Merit Badge Counselor earns merit badges. The Scout is
required to contact the Counselor to arrange for times and places to
meet together (along with a buddy). When the Scout completes the
work on the merit badge, teh Counselor will inform the SM that the
Scout has completed the requirements for that badge. Merit Badges
earned will be presented to the Scout during the Troop's quarterly
Court of Honor.
Other Awards
Among the many other achievements a Scout can earn are the
Mile Swim, 50 Miles Afoot/Afloat, Hornaday Award, World Conservation
Award, God and Country, Texas Award, BSA Lifeguard, etc.
Requirements are found in the Boy Scout Requirements Pamphlet.
