Senior Patrol Leader

Troop 98 Senior Patrol Leader:
Jonathan A.
Duties:
-
He is the top
junior leader in the Troop and presides at all Troop meetings,
events, and functions.
-
He leads the
Patrol Leaders Council (PLC) and, in consultation with the
Scoutmaster, appoints other junior leaders and assigns specific
responsibilities as needed.
-
He is
responsible for the conduct of the Troop at all organized
activities.
-
In addition to
PLC meetings, the SPL must be committed to meeting with the SM
on a regular basis, (typically by phone), as determined by the
SM.
-
Contact by
phone, or in person, all of the Patrol Leaders each week, at
least four days prior to the Troop meeting or activity. The
following items need to be discussed:

Explain the
Troop meeting or activity.

If the PL
was absent from the last meeting, inform him of the
proceedings.

Ask about
the Patrol...what is happening...any problems or
concerns...and offer help.

Ask if he
has any ideas or topics to discuss at the PLC meeting.
-
Encourage
and compliment him and his Patrol.
-
Set the example:
-
Earn regular
advancement.
-
Live by the
Scout Oath and Law.
-
Wear the
uniform correctly.
-
Use BSA
Handbook and the Patrol Leader Handbook for guidelines.

While the
position of SPL is the most difficult and time consuming in
the Troop, it offers the Scout an outstanding opportunity to
grow in leadership and ability. Every Scout should aspire to
serve in this office.
Qualifications:
-
Elected by the
Troop.
-
Star rank or
higher.
-
Be a member of
the Troop for at least six months.
-
Have attended at
least one long-term camp.
-
Demonstrate
consistent attendance at Troop meetings and monthly campouts.

Demonstrate
active progress toward the next rank or earn additional merit
badges.

Agree to attend
District or Council-level training courses designed to help him
serve in his office.

Scoutmaster(s)
can amend the qualifications for this position at any time.
